PLC of Denver Info

Phlebotomy Learning Center of Denver offers choices to students regarding their phlebotomy and healthcare training. However we have specific Entrance requirements that apply to students attending any of our courses or programs.

ENTRANCE and ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • PLCI does not discriminate based on age, race, sex, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or disability.
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age upon completion of the Phlebotomy Certification.
  • (Medical facilities require that a student be at least 18 years of age to work in direct patient care. Students therefore must be at least 17 years and 9 months when they begin the course and 18 years of age when they complete the course).
  • Students must have a High School Diploma or GED from a school in the United States and they must show proof of the diploma or GED for any course other than the CPR and First Aid course. It is required that prospective students have a high school diploma or equivalency diploma (GED) due to the intensity of the covered material. Students must turn in a copy of such diploma or GED upon enrollment.  High school or college level transcripts may be accepted in lieu of the copy of diploma or GED.
  • If they do not have a high school diploma or GED from the United States or if English is their second language prospective students must pass the WBST English basic skills test given by PLC of Denver prior to admittance into any program other than CPR and First Aid. They must pass the WBST test with a score of level three and grade level eleven in order to be accepted into the certification programs and courses. Students must also show competency in English conversation. Phlebotomy is a career where students must have excellent command of the English language. Phlebotomists deal with patients as well as other medical professionals and are required to communicate effectively every day. It is up to the discretion of the administration to admit or deny a student based on competency and ability. We will not accept a student into the program if we feel that language difficulty may be a detriment to either passing the course or the classroom experience as a whole, as well as a detriment to externship and/or employment.
  • Students must turn in an application and participate in an application interview to be considered for the Phlebotomy Certification program or the Medical Terminology program. This is done by appointment only. Students may apply online and then make an appointment, by phone, to submit their payment and complete their interview.
  • A $400.00 deposit is required to hold a space in any certification program (i.e. Phlebotomy Certification).
  • Payment in full is required at the time of enrollment for the ASPT National Certification Exam two weeks prior to the start date and enrolled in the ASPT Exam 60 days prior to the exam date.
  • Exceptions for deposit and payment are made to those students who are being financed through a third party payer such as WIA, Vocational Rehabilitation, TANF or any other agency. We will accept a letter of payment or an approved voucher in lieu of the deposit or payment for any program or course.
  • Students must have the physical ability and emotional maturity to perform the duties and procedures of phlebotomy.  This may be discussed at the application interview.  Final determination of a student’s acceptance into any program or course is the responsibility and at the discretion of the Director or Administrator.
  • Students with Medical Conditions which may affect their ability to draw blood or endanger other students exposed to their blood must disclose this information to the Director or Administrator prior to the start date of class. (This includes but is not limited to: HIV, Hepatitis B or C, any other bloodborne disease. This also includes past or current injury to back, wrist, neck or any other condition that makes it difficult to use their hands or to be on the feet for long periods of time).
  • Students who have a medical condition which may affect them or cause illness during class must also disclose this information prior to the start date of any program or course in case of emergency. (These include but are not limited to: diabetes, heart condition, epilepsy or seizure disorder or anything that can case an emergency on a daily basis).
  • Students who are pregnant must disclose this to the Director or Administrator prior to admissions to any program or course. Pregnant women are excused from having venipunctures performed on them but must provide a volunteer (friend or family member) that is willing to have venipunctures performed on them in place of the student.
  • Students must provide emergency contact information for at least 3 individuals, not living with the student, in the case of emergency, non-payment of tuition and fees and if they are funded by a government agency, for post graduate tracking information.

ENROLLMENT

Enrollment is an application process and is based on a “first come first served” basis. Prospective students may apply for enrollment up to the start day of class if there is room available in that class. Late enrollment is not allowed. Please be advised that program/courses generally fill long before the start date of class and that early enrollment is encouraged.

The deposit amount is part of the total tuition. Students will be accepted into the program based on their written application and the application interview. This interview is by appointment only. Students are also asked to read the catalog and sign the enrollment agreement after acceptance into the program.

The student must have a satisfactory performance report from their externship to receive a certificate of completion in phlebotomy. Final determination of a student’s pass/fail status is the responsibility of the instructor with input from the Administrator if needed.

Please refer to the Program or Course description contained in our catalog for complete information on grading and on certification for each specific course or program.

Payment of Tuition and Fees and Payment Plans

PLC of Denver allows students to spread payments out over the weeks of their program or package plan in order for more students to have the ability to train at our facility. We do not however offer any student loan programs nor do we take funding from PELL grants or any federal funding agency.

We are a school approved to accept funding from state funding agencies. We work with WIA and the county Workforce programs, Vocational Rehabilitation, TANF, Denver Housing Authority, and many Insurance Companies for retraining. Please contact PLCI for further information on this type of funding.

For any program or package plan $400.00 is due upon enrollment, this amount is required to secure a spot in any program. Students will not be insured of enrollment without payment of the $400.00 deposit. Upon enrollment students will work with the Administrator to determine payments required to complete the payment of all tuition and fees prior to the end of any program. Payment amounts will depend on the total tuition and fees incurred for programs or package plans.

Payments can be made on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. To complete any program, Phlebotomy Certification, students must have all tuition and fees paid in full prior to taking the final exam. Students will not be allowed to take the final exam if they owe any monies or if they have not completed any requirements for completion.

For one day courses tuition and fees must be paid two weeks prior to the date of the course. If student is unable to pay the entire amount up front the Administrator may make an exception and accept ½ of tuition upon enrollment in the course and the remaining ½ on the day of the course.

DRESS CODE

During CLASSROOM portion of instruction students may dress casually. Jeans, scrubs, sweats, etc. are acceptable for the classroom environment. Students may not wear shorts or skirts and must wear close-toed shoes. For the Phlebotomy program students are encouraged to wear a short sleeve shirt to provide easier access for venipuncture.

Phlebotomy students will receive complete information regarding dress for the externship on their first day of class. Students will be required to purchase and wear scrubs to their externship facility.
