National Phlebotomy Certification through ASPT – REGISTER NOW!
Phlebotomy Learning Center of Denver has recently become affiliated with American Society for Phlebotomy Technicians and we are now going to be the only Colorado school offering the ASPT National Phlebotomy Certification Exam.
National Certification is just one more way for phlebotomists to better themselves and move forward in their education and a way for employers to know that their employees really do know the standards for phlebotomy and safety required for their very important occupation.
Colorado, like many states, does not require certification for phlebotomists however the employers do require a certificate from an approved program. PLC of Denver offers that certificate to students and the ASPT certification is another step in increased professionalism and knowledge for phlebotomists.
The A.S.P. T. was founded in 1983 and is the second oldest certifying agency of Phlebotomy. Although testing and certification is one of the organization's most valuable functions, A.S.P.T. does more than just certify trained Phlebotomists. The society provides materials for continuing education home study, membership newsletters, develops cross-training programs, and approves training programs and their instructors.

Hours: Approximately 3 hours
Held at PLCI at the address listed in catalog
Students are given two hours for the written portion of the test and 10 minutes for the practical portion.
Test completion time depends on the student and their ability to take the written exam.
Cost: $110.00 ($85 to ASPT and $25 to PLCI for administrative costs)
Included in the $85.00 to ASPT is the required membership fee. This allows you to be a member for one year and receive the benefits of membership.
For this course a student must prepay at least 60 days prior to the test date. If the student does not show for the exam they can reschedule the exam at a later date ONLY with prior consent and arrangement from ASPT. If there is no prior arrangement made they will lose their prepayment amount. Late enrollment is allowed but there are additional fees for late enrollment.
Exam Enrollment Information
- Phlebotomy Learning Center of Denver will be offering the ASPT National Phlebotomy Certification Exam at our location on an every other month basis.
- Cost for the Exam is $110.00 ($85.00 for ASPT and $25.00 to PLC for administrative costs).
- ASPT will only take payment by check or money order made payable to ASPT. Therefore PLC will issue one check to ASPT for all participants and participants will pay one payment to PLC for the entire $110 fee.
- PLC of Denver will take payment by cash, check, money order or credit card
- You must be registered for the exam 60 days prior to the date of the exam.
- You will receive a test outline booklet from ASPT. This test consists of 220 multiple choice questions.
- Phlebotomy Eligibility Requirements are as follows:
- 1. One full year working part-time in Phlebotomy
- OR
- Six months working full-time in Phlebotomy
- OR
- A letter from a Health Care Supervisor attesting that part of the job is procuring blood specimens regularly, must be submitted with membership application.
- OR
- Successful completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program; Must have at least 100 documented successful venipunctures and 5 documented successful skin punctures
- AND
- Current ASPT membership (which you will get when you register for the certification exam)
Completion:
Following completion of the exam the tests are sent to ASPT for grading and certification. In about 6-8 weeks you will receive grades and if applicable the certification. This comes directly from ASPT and not from PLC of Denver. Questions regarding completion will be answered on the day of the test or by calling PLC of Denver or by visiting the ASPT website at www.aspt.org.
